This page has the basics yet crucial information on how to get a home. You may not want a home right now but the sooner you know how to have good credit the better.
Credit
Get three credit cards. If you don't have any credit or have bad credit get a secured card. A secured credit card will still report to credit agencies. A good place for a secured card is at Orchard Bank. After that I'd suggest going to your bank and applying. You will need to have atleast one years credit history.
Don't make any late payments!
When you make payments only pay 80-90% of the card off each month. You will pay a little bit of interest but this is the most effecient way to raise your score.
It doesn't happen overnight but this is how you start building yourself up to having great credit.
Save money
You need to start saving money, you will usually need to have between 2-6 months of payments in the bank. In other words if your payment is $1,000 you will need to have between $2,000-6,000. It all depends on the bank and loan.
Job History
If someone came to you and asked to borrow money but didn't have a job would you loan them the money? You need two years job, they don't have to be at the same job but try to keep them in the same job category.
Is that so hard? No, of course not. Remember this is only a rough guide line, some people don't have all these and it is possible to get a loan without having all this. BUT knowing what you should have will make it a lot easier when you go to get a home. |
